Love! Drama! Action!

There's no getting around stating the obvious once more: Comic-Con is big. Big, crowded, and, yes, yes, a little bit smelly. But no matter how large and stinky the crowds get, we here at SLG always have our booth. It's very busy behind the tables, but somehow it always feels homey—it's a nice place where we can talk to creators for a few brief moments or hide from the crowds behind boxes of Spooky and Fillerbunny toys.
But before the crowds, there was:

Day Zero -- Wednesday, July 16

Okay, so here's a secret (well, it's not anymore, but, whatever): I'm a great big slouch at conventions. Other SLG-ers run the cash registers and dig up the t-shirts far more than I do. I kind of wander around and talk to artists, pinch-hit for any of my comrades who need a break, answer questions, shake various people's hands, give opinions on projects, and sometimes sit staring vacantly at the crowd walking around our booth.

We loves Andi soooo much.
I'm also pretty useless when it comes to setting up and breaking down the booth—something that the man in the picture to the right was quick to point out on Wednesday night. People may call Andi Watson (Samurai Jam, Skeleton Key, Slow News Day, Kitsune Tales) "a prince" and describe him as being "too nice for comics," but I know that he is in fact full of vicious British meanness. Indeed. For the first two days, he made fun of me because I am too puny to lift my own suitcase into the overhead bins on airplanes (or "aeroplanes," as I suppose the English weirdo would call them). Really, the only redeemable things about Andi Watson are his lovely wife and adorable daughter. And his comics, I guess.

Aw, I kid! Andi knows that everyone at SLG loves him sooooo much. He even humored (is it "humoured" when Andi does it?) me by understanding the lame joke I made about Proust on Wednesday night and joining in when I was singing "Panic" by The Smiths. In fact, you will soon see just how much a certain member of the SLG crew loves Andi. Place your bets! Who loves Andi the most?

Is it Dan Vado, the supreme commander? (Seen here taking a break after commanding his legions.)
Is it Jennifer de Guzman, the referring-to-herself-in-third-person editor-in-chief? (Seen here doing important research with a Silver Age issue of Lois Lane.)
Is it Deb Moskyok, the fast-talkin' bombshell sales director? (Seen here peddlin' our wares.)
Is it Chris Haskett, a.k.a. Lex Hatchet, special projects man extraordinaire? (Seen here as his alter-ego, Super Register Man.)
Is it Joe Nakamura, the smooth operator and chief morale officer? (Seen here in "Classic Joe" mode.)
Or is it young Bryan Dobrow, at his first Comic-Con and handling it like . . . well, as well as he could. (Seen here handling things as well as he can.)
